Company Name:

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is governed by the Board of Health. It is the Board’s role to oversee the health unit’s affairs and operations. The Board, through the Medical Officer of Health/Chief Executive Officer is ultimately responsible for the organization.

The Board has been established under the Province of Ontario’s Health Protection and Promotion Act. The purpose of this Act is to provide for the organization and delivery of public health programs and services, the prevention of the spread of disease and the promotion and protection of the health of the people of Ontario.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, like all 36 health units in Ontario, offers a combination of programs and services, and works on policies and initiatives that protect and promote the health of the populations it serves. In doing so, we recognize that health is complex and influenced by a number of factors, such as where we live and work, the amount of money we have, and our social connections. These factors are called the social determinants of health, and in collaboration with our partners, and oftentimes behind-the-scenes, we work to address them and the role they play in health of our communities.
