The Medical Board of California is a state government agency which licenses and disciplines medical doctors. The Board provides two principal types of services to consumers: public-record information about California-licensed physicians, and investigation of complaints against physicians.

* To use prospective clinical and observational trials to determine the optimal dosage, timing, and modes of administration of cannabis and cannabinoids in various medical disorders, as well as address issues of safety and toxicity, including the impact of administration on daily functioning and life quality.

* To conduct limited pre-clinical studies with direct relevance to understanding cannabis and cannabinoids as therapeutic agents.

* To facilitate the implementation of research by assisting investigators in securing relevant regulatory review and approval by state and federal agencies.

* To establish a process of rigorous peer review of scientific proposals.

* To secure external sources of funding to maximize the scope and size of cannabis and cannabinoid studies.
